This is my new, and possibly all time favorite motto. Although I first heard it on a workout video, it really applies to everything in life. When I find myself in need of some motivation (for school, work, exercise, etc.), I just repeat this over and over again in my head. So far it’s worked. I’m too old to make lame justifications for not following through.
No excuses.
Vacation?
Good news #1: I found a great flight deal to Zurich, Switzerland from March 21 - March 28 for $460 round trip
Pros:
- I don’t think I’ve seen a price that good to Europe, well… ever.
- I am in need of a real vacation. Sitting around my house for 3 weeks while I was off work for winter break doesn’t count. I need to get away to foreign lands once again.
- (There are also somewhat affordable options for Barcelona, Brussels, London, and Paris. I’ve already been to Barcelona; Brussels and London are not calling to me; and I’m saving Paris for a more romantical occasion when I have my future imaginary husband to go with, so naturally, Zurich is the winner.)
Cons:
- While the flight price is great, I still have to take into consideration daily expenditures and lodging for a week. Seeing as I’ve been on a tight budget and am trying to be responsible by trying to save money, an impromptu trip to Europe is probably not the best idea.
- I would need to request time off from work and would not get paid vacation if I were to go. I have a week off in April, but flights are practically double during that time D=
Good News #2: I found a flight to Chicago for $180 during my week off in April.
Pros:
- I can go during my normal vacation time and won’t have to request any days off.
- The flight is definitely affordable, considering flights to Seattle and San Francisco are about $200+ and flights to NY and Washington DC are well over $350 from LA during that same week.
- My first and last trip to Chicago in 2010 was nice, but underwhelming, so I’ve been wanting to go again.
Cons:
- I don’t want to go alone. I would totally travel to Zurich alone. I have traveled solo to Tokyo, Shanghai, and Beijing, so I have experience. But for some reason though, traveling alone in the USA freaks me out. I know that doesn’t make sense…
- I’m trying to save money, remember? (Still cheaper than Zurich!)
- It’ll probably be cold as fuck.
I’m going to let this simmer for a bit before I make a decision.
The last 48 hours of my life have been nothing but a floaty cloud. Thank god for three day weekends.

Caramelized Banana and Fig Oatmeal
It sounds a lot fancier than it is. I mean, who has the energy for figs in the morning?
Confession: I’ve never even cooked with figs. I don’t even know if I have seen them in real life. Where does a Minnesotan buy figs in March? I don’t have the first clue.
Ok, I know I haven’t written about ANYTHING in months, and that is unacceptable, but after looking at 4th of July recipes last night, I somehow stumbled upon this delicious looking Oatmeal recipe. I just happened to have all of the ingredients and was so excited to try it this morning, that I dreamed of it all night. Let’s just say this is the best damn oatmeal recipe I’ve EVER had. It’s been 3 hours since I’ve indulged in this stuff and I’m still full. Please eat this. That is all.
Garfunkel And Oates - Worst song medley
I had the pleasure of seeing these ladies last night at the Upright Citizens Bridade theater in LA. I had never heard of them until last night, but my friend, Juju, invited me to go with her. They were awesome. If you’re a fan of comical duets, check them out.
